Amy Karp
Amy grew up in Dallas watching her Grandmother paint wonderful portraits of families. As a little girl she was fascinated with her work and would regulary sneak into her back room where she painted and used to sit in amazement at her skill.
All the easels, brushes, and portraits lying about only added excitement and intrigue to what she did. It was then that Amy knew she would follow in her foot steps and be an artist. She wound up taking drawing and painting classes in college to advance her own skills.
Then, she took a photography course and it all changed. Once she discovered she could paint with light, it was all over, she wanted to be photographer! The way that one can manipulate their art with the proper photographic techniques had her hooked from the beginning. Photography had her at “hello”. Her husband Jon encouraged and pushed her to follow her passion for the lens. As a result Amy gets to do what she loves, every day! It continues to be more and more rewarding and satisfying with every press of the shutter. It only makes it more special that she gets to enjoy her passion for photography!
Before Amy began shooting weddings full time, she worked in the accounting field for 8 years. She was pulling double duty as a full time office manager and shooting whenever she could. She started specializing in weddings in 2006.
Amy worked with some amazing photographers in the Dallas area whose work she admires and respects. Learning from some of the best wedding photographers in the Dallas area helped pave the way for where she is today. They had their own wedding in 2007 and shortly after, they were expecting their son, Sam.
In 2008, Sam made his debut into the world and they have been a party of 3 since then. Amy’s first full year as a full-time wedding photographer was 2009.
She is proud to say by the end of that year, she was nationally published in Southern Weddings Magazine. By the end of 2010 she had 3 magazine covers, a fashion editorial in Texas Wedding Guide, and many wonderful couples to call friends.
Amy also runs a wedding resource with one of her past brides, Tamra. She started Groom Sold Separately at the end of 2009 and has been excited to watch it grow.
